Music Crush Sundays: Little Dragon

I discovered the amazing band that is Little Dragon back in 2011, primarily through their third album, Ritual Union (2011). Their music was unlike anything I had ever heard before, effortlessly mixing soul and rnb with electronica.

Needless to say, I was hooked.

Headed by frontwoman Yukimi Nagano, Little Dragon hails from Sweden, and has been playing together since their teen years in the late 1990s. They have released three albums in total, the first (Little Dragon) and the third (Ritual Union), being my favorites thus far (“Constant Surprises” off their début album is one of my all-time favorite songs)

Next week, the band will be releasing their fourth studio album, Nabuma Rubberband, and from the singles they’ve released thus far, it sounds like its going to be amazing.

On one of my favorite tracks, “Klapp Klapp”, the band creates music mayhem, with a stream of claps and electronic beats, while Yukimi pulls you in with her soulful voice and dope lyricism.

Even better is “Paris”, where Yukimi nostalgically sings, “Spirit divide, drift alone/I wave goodbye, I carry it all” over a trippy-beat that Little Dragon has become known for.

Nabuma Rubberband will be released worldwide on May 13th, 2014 – and I absolutely can’t wait!
